A ride in the woods, May 24th, 2010

For the last few weeks is has rained more or less 24/7, at least it seams that way.  If the sun did shine I was either at work from sun-up to sun-down or I had family obligations.  That is until yesterday, I had a brief window of opportunity from 10am to 3:30pm.  What follows is short snippet of my journey.

The rain had stopped, the Sun was shining and I had the day off from work and family affairs. I went for 150 mile lunch ride via a couple of creeks. Give me a few days and I will post a longer version with a few more highlights.

See you on the road.

Note:  Sorry, YouTube just doesn't have a embedded size that fits my layout, so the video is best viewed on YouTube, the mgt

Very nice! Man, you're really crankin' up the speed on that dirt/gravel road. Any chance a deer could pop out? The other thing is except for someone on a bicycle no one else was on the road. Of course it was a Monday, but still.

Well done with nice scenery!

Thanks Mike. It may look a little fast but I probably never reached 40 on any of the gravel. It's hard to see very far into the corners, so I expect to see a truck, tractor, fresh gravel or a heard of goats around everyone. Well maybe not the heard of goats. Although not filmed I did come up on a couple of cars stopped in the middle of the road talking and not willing to move (at least not for a motorcycle). I'm working on another clip of smaller slower trails I found, hopefully I will post it in a few days.

I can help you out here with the size of the embeded video file. Even though YouTube doesn’t have a embedded file size that fits your layout, you can change it yourself.

After importing the video in exactly the same way you have done, before you hit the (Publish” button to make your post visible on the web, look carefully at the html code of your posting. You will see something like <object width=”470” height=”290” These numbers control the size of the video that will appear on your blog. You can change them to make the video fit into your layout. The numbers I have quoted here (470x290) are the sizes I use on my blog, but you might need to adjust them to suit yours.

Note there are two places in the html code that you need to change the numbers.

You can change already published videos, so have a go and see if you can get yours to fit. Good luck!

Looks like 400X280 will work nicely. Thanks

They fit like a glove now!

Sorry I didn't tell you about that image size that Gary did. I thought there was a different technical reason your original one didn't fit. :) It's great now!

you left me behind at that water crossing. I'll never be able to catch up now.

I was trying to make a bit of a splash for the camera, so I think you could make it. I suspect you have similar structures up north, we call them low water bridges or just low water crossing. They are mostly dry, but if you get a lot of rain the water will run over them for a few days. There is one problem though, if they get little traffic the crossings can get a coating of slime, and if THIS can happen (about 1 min in)and if that happens then THIS can happen...

As long as those things don't happen it's quite fun...

Love the video link to the guy falling off in the water. Nice oil on the second link!

Gary,

He works at the local BMW shop, I think the photo was after he had changed the oil a couple of times. The bike was running just a short time but it still hydro-locked. I hope to learn from his lesson. Don't fall in the water and then try to start you bike right up!
